東宝映画製作、防衛省&自衛隊協力、特撮による破壊映像、正月映画、そして自衛官が高嶋政伸と、まるで少し前まで恒例だったゴジラ映画の様相を呈している布陣に加え、子供、犬、家族愛、などなど感動映画としての定番をこれでもかと盛り込んだ本作、家族で楽しめる安全パイの娯楽映画としての要素はむしろゴジラ以上だ。
