世界中の爆弾をすべて花火に替えたい・・・
私たちは、山本五十六出生地である長岡は、
12/8真珠湾攻撃と8/1長岡空襲で犠牲となられた方々の慰霊、そして世界平和を願って、「祈りの花火」尺玉3発を打上げます。
いつか真珠湾の地で打上げられることを夢みて、
まずは長岡で、そして真珠湾へ。
そして、次は・・・・。みんなの力でもう二度と戦争のない、平和な世界になりますように・・・。※この親指 人差し指 小指を立てた形は手話で「I Love You」を表しています。 世界共通の“I Love You”のサインです。【An Expression of Our Condolences and for the Pursuit of Peace】In March 2012, the cities of Honolulu and Nagaoka became sister cities. Nagaoka’s fireworks were displayed on Waikiki Beach as an expression of our condolences and for the pursuit of peace, which was truly an historic event.
On August 1st in Nagaoka, fireworks in memory of the Nagaoka Air-Raid victims are launched annually.
Also in Nagaoka at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th (Japan time), the anniversary day of the Pearl Harbor attack, volunteers of the Executive Committee for the December 8th Fireworks of Condolences will launch fireworks to express our condolences to the victims who perished at Pearl Harbor and for the pursuit of world peace as we did so last year on the Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration on December 7th (Honolulu time).
It is our sincere wish that someday we would be able to launch fireworks, based on the kind understanding by the people of Hawaii, over Pearl Harbor in order to express our condolences and to convey our thoughts for the pursuit of peace to the American people through our fireworks.Chiga Watanabe

- 太平洋戦争開戦の日、ハワイの真珠湾空襲の日です。
指揮したのは長岡市出身の連合艦隊長官山本五十六。
その後終戦間近米軍機のより長岡市は空襲されます。
そして知られるようになった長岡花火はそもそもその空襲の犠牲者の慰霊でもありました。
さらにその長岡市の花火大会の大ファンだった放浪の画家と言われる山下清さんは有名な長岡花火の作品を残し、全国の花火大会を愛しそして戦争が嫌いだった心情を「みんなが爆弾なんかつくらないできれいな花火ばかりをつくっていたらきっと戦争なんか起きなかったんだな」 というコメントにしています。
長岡市の花火師嘉瀬氏も戦争体験から同様のコメントをされています。映画「この空の花」もそれが一つのテーマになっています。
この２０１２年１２月８日の慰霊と平和の花火はそのような思いを乗せた市民・国民の花火です。
