ミニチュアならではの粘りと撓みが、リアリティを超えたドラマ性、つまり映画的演技を示しており、ミニチュア撮影という手法の積極的な意義を顕示する好見本といえる。倒壊した家屋の周辺の情景や自衛隊ヘリの活躍場面など、デジタル合成が大活躍のはずだが、ほとんど違和感がない。東宝特撮が久々に真価を発揮した記念碑的な映画といえるだろう。
